  Mesmerizing.

  I love how Blue Velvet aspires to more than just telling a story.  It broaches world-building.  I found myself thinking that if the characters just went off-script at any point and just wandered into another part of America or even just a few doors down, they might exit the narrative they are part of, but they would just find themselves in another place where white picket fences exist as a veneer over a similarly weird, sinister, but ultimately captivating world hiding in a plain sight.

  Just a fantastic film.
