The werewolf stuff is kinda whatever but I can’t stop thinking about how gorgeous this looks. Just radiates perfect, warm summer hangout energy…the type of thing I would watch when I was nine or ten and think about how awesome my life would be in a couple years when I would finally be able to do the same stuff. I like how they try to do the classic Stephen King thing of a kid slowly having to come to terms with the darkness lurking beneath an idyllic small town by making everyone such a horrible piece of shit to each other right off the bat. It’s great.

Wolf Man 2025
I was a Universal Monsters kid, so I'll always be seated for any of these name-only reboot things they occasionally do. This was really terrible, though — relentlessly dour and hellbent on going out of its way to avoid doing anything cool. Great that this guy's vision for something like this is just flavorless, gentle-parenting-themed Antlers-core.

Halloween 1978
What struck me the most this time around was the beauty of the mundane and seemingly-inconsequential character moments. Walking home with your friends on a quiet fall afternoon and talking about school and boys and homework as the sun beams down from the sky. Driving around town and talking while smoking weed and listening to Don't Fear the Reaper on Halloween night. It all feels cosmic and eternal, like the soft, orange jack-‘o-lantern glow that lights up the opening credits.
Really though, everything about this is just perfect. A classic for a reason.

Fuck the outside world, I wanna live in the lush green summerscapes of this movie forever.
