Eli Roth maight be an unapologetic frat man (and Nazi defending Zionist) but it takes that level of lack of self reflection for a man to make such a straight forward model slasher. It's fun, its campy, it's got your one liners, a great villain with pretty decent motivation, and a proud homages to Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Nightmare on Elm Street and maybe the Dark Knight. It's the best holiday killer movie since Krampus and it would probably…

    Leprechaun

    ★★★

Leprechaun does what it needs to do and not much else. It's like a magical folklore version of Childs play but it does outstay its welcome and the plot armor in this movie was manufactured by zeus himself.

    Shout out to Kevin Kiner.

This movie is just shy of a masterpeice for me. There are so many little ways this film is brilliant. So much low budget ingenuity. Somehow the movie manages to be incredibly compelling when really not much happens. There are only like 5 kills in the film, and it doesn't end with any kind of bang. The final shots are also brilliant. My favorite scene is when the girl forgets her car key, only to returned to an unlocked car…

    Mickey 17

    ★★★★

Mickey 17 is a satirical sci fi epic. It channels the very best from Paul Verhoeven, Stanley Kubrick, and Hayao Miyazaki. The movies strengths are also its greatest weaknesses. Mark Ruffalo's Trump impression is both cliche and perfectly executed. The movie is incredibly unpredictable as it changes direction in nearly every scene, but also leaves the film feeling aimless. There is an exhausting amount of exposition to explain how this world works, but it somehow all feels necessary for the amount of ideas being juggled. It's the first great movie of the year, and that means we won't remember it by award season.
