Matinee 1993
Joe Dante's best movie.
I love all the kitsch gimmicks and goofy exploitation movies of the past in theory rather than reality. They're usually more fun in concept than in actuality and make better posters than viewing experiences. Here Dante takes all those influences and makes something that stands the test of time out of them.

Cotton Comes to Harlem 1970
Watchable. Nice scene of the neon storefronts of Harlem in 1970. A visit to the Apollo theater. Semi-hip. With the emphasis on the semi.
Best moment in the film is the final joke. It’s hilariously unexpected, but not sure if it’s worth the 90 minute setup.

More 1969
I feel the reviews here miss the point. This is an intentionally de-romanticized view of the sixties that was made during the time it is portraying. There is no nostalgia in this telling. The people are not pleasant. They are lost like many hippies were. So the movie is depressing and sad like life sometimes is for some people. You can be lost and never found again. You can lose yourself. The Pink Floyd score is great and the cinematography is by an all time cinematic genius: Nestor Almendros.

Vivienne Westwood rode punk into knighthood. She is apparently Dame Westwood.
A friend told me I had to visit her punk shop, because it was the birthplace of English punk and essential. I went and was horrified by the prices. What makes it any…
