Scrolling through the logs for this movie and the overwhelming trend is that it made people reflect on good memories of baseball, old friends, being outside, family, etc. Same for me. At its best, it transported me back to a simpler time when I was outside - especially at night - with my childhood friends. When it seemed like anything could happen. Every night like that felt important. At its worst, I was bored by the events actually taking place on screen. Several good quips.

I feel like I can’t give this a proper star rating because this was SO hard to follow. Like abnormally difficult even by Park standards. Also it’s clear that a lot of this movie’s tricks and beats are built around the idiosyncrasies of the Korean language, which I do not speak. In competition with only The Handmaiden for the title of Best Looking Park Film and I might even give it to this one. The best use of text message dialogue since The Departed.

I could complain about the maudlin tone, the stage-to-screen translation, the incredible cynicism and the ludicrous fat suit, but I think the worst thing I can say about this thing is that it portends to be a movie about the genuine quality of the human spirit and for nearly all of its runtime I felt nothing.

Unbelievable, flawless first half. Jury still out on second half. On the whole incredibly impressive in its scope. Brody and Pierce are great, which goes without saying. I thought Alwyn was fantastic as the preening, slimy middle manager.

A month and a half ago I visited the Crystal Bridges museum in Bentonville, AR. Built on Walton money. Gorgeous facility filled with contemporary and classical art. There was an installation dedicated to the architect and the building’s construction, and I could see that project having gone about the same way.
