There’s far too much here to talk about in a bloody letterboxd review. But this movie fulfils the idea of a biopic better than any I’ve ever seen - through the story and changing personality of Malcom X we are detailed his significance as a person and as a cultural figure so so clearly and powerfully. The final hour is literally unbelievable.

I always knew Denzel was a great actor, but it is quite literally one of the best performances…

    On the Count of Three

Hits some predictable notes, and also definitely hits some surprising ones. The two fellas are really likeable, and both are really good performances. Avoids too much sentimentality until the right moments and thankfully remains sardonic and funny until the very end. Count me as a fan!

What a beautiful movie. Original, referential, reverential. And that ending. Cried me eyes out.

When i was watching the movie i thought i was gonna write something like this:

relentless delirious invention. did i have a clue what was going on? no. was I kinda transfixed? yes. did i like it? i think so, maybe, yeah.

anyways, check out The Saragossa Manuscript

But then towards the end of the film i think i kinda understood half of what was going on, and it thematically came together. It looks great it sounds great and the ending is great. It still doesn’t make a lot of sense throughout, but i definitely like it now!

Anyways check out The Saragossa Manuscript
