Very fun to revisit this one having now seen all the other Evil Dead movies! I remember seeing this in theaters with friends in 2013 and it was the first time I realized I could handle a horror movie beyond the safety of the PG-13. The flask we snuck in certainly helped too (and I’m sure I probably covered my eyes a lot). This one is gnarly!!!! Still though, I’ve come a long way as a horror fan!

So stupid, I love it. The leads’ chemistry is what made this work/watchable and was a nice contrast to all the idiotic side characters’ shenanigans. I feel like the script was made by AI or an alien or someone completely unfamiliar with human behavior, but in an enjoyable way?

I’m always a sucker for these types of movies. I think it’s because the female protagonist is allowed to be beautiful but wild; kind-hearted but strong.
It veered into the ‘born sexy yesterday’ trope at times but I think ultimately it was a dignified portrayal of Pocahontas.
I need to watch more Terrence Malick now, this kind of filmmaking really resonates with me.
