Took me three sittings to make it through. Marvel fatigue setting in big time. It just gets tiresome to set up emotional stakes that always resolve with fisticuffs. I can feel this straining at the typical Marvel seams and I appreciate any efforts to deviate from formula. I hope Coogler makes all the money and gets all the power, so he can go back to making non-marvel movies.

The Little Drummer Girl 2018
The slow burn of a LeCarre novel with visual stylings and overall horniness of Park Chan-wook. There’s such an elemental feel to the relationships in PCW outings. The repulsion and attraction between characters seem half emotion, half gravitational magnetism. I can see why he’d be drawn to a story of a lefty British actor who gets caught up in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I loved that he got to really stretch out and let the story breathe over the course of the mini series. Pugh rules in this.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 2022
Positive reviews from the toddler and the two tweens as well as this middle aged guy. Manages to get existential without being a major bummer like your average Pixar movie. Spider-verse has unlocked a whole new gear in kinetic animated storytelling and PiB really goes for it. Wrings some genuine enjoyment out of the played out twisted take on fairy tales.
