  It isn’t funny.
  It desperately wants to be funny.
  It contains numerous elements that could be funny.
  It makes choices (oh boy does it make choices) that, isolated, could become funny. 

  But it isn’t funny. 

  It makes me sad to say it, but I don’t think Bong Joon Ho is a funny guy. 

  The timing is wrong
  The acting is wrong
  There are too many elements and they’re all played against each other
  - half of the characters are played as caricatures, flat and designed to mock without any chance of connection
  - the other half are played too seriously and make you sad

  Decent.

  Why any of the chemistry in this movie would work, I have no idea. There are some real leaps there.

  Why people with infinite resources wouldn’t just buy a different island that wasn’t infested with animals whose presence could undo or reveal their evil schemes…no clue.

  Why the board of a multi-billion dollar tech corporation would allow any of the things it permits to happen…yeah, that one just wouldn’t happen, no matter what.

  I hated this movie. Hated it deeply.

  Know what we didn’t need after 18 months of COVID? A speculative story about Princess Diana having a delusional breakdown and being self-abusive at Christmas. 

  I hated the premise, a grasping excuse to cash in on the fame of a dead celebrity without having any responsibility to be truthful.

  I hated the acting that made Prince Charles sympathetic and Diana a mentally unwell mess who spoke like air escaping a car tire.

  MAGNIFICENT trash.

  All fun, all go.

  2 hours and 10 minutes of relentless fun.
