Nosferatu 2024
Saw this a couple weeks ago, and I've decided it was all right. Hews surprisingly close to the original, for good or ill. Obviously when you're remaking such an influential pillar of cinema, you don't want to tread on its legacy, but I wish Eggers had done more to blaze his own trail here.

The Wrestler 2008
Boy, what a gut punch. Mickey Rourke absolutely melts into his character, a charming but emotionally isolated pro wrestler. I can't get over it. What a performance! Marisa Tomei does pretty damn well here, too. A couple of the scenes with Evan Rachel Wood's Stephanie don't quite match the caliber of the other players, but not bad by any means.

Basic Instinct 1992
A competent-ish neo-noir, absolutely drenched in sex and violence. It's hard to tell at times if the cynicism is satirical or straight -- with Verhoeven at the helm, I suspect it's a little of both. The script is anything but subtle, and is perfectly unafraid to show and then tell.
