Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 1984
- A total tonal mess. Serious horror butting right up against goofy kid stuff. (The “pull out his heart and lower him into the lave” sequence gives real Ari Aster-esque anxiety. Ke Huy Quan is also hilarious and charismatic as hell.)
- Spielberg just spins gold throughout. So many INCREDIBLE sequences. The gong, the float alllllll the way down the mountain, the dinner, the whole last 30 mins - all GOLD.
- The “other”-ing is hardcore, but it’s softened a bit by how joyful the ending is.Translated from by -
