wOwEE. i went into this film with zero expectations having only seen the trailer two hours prior and i was SO pleasantly surprised. 

i do wonder if the average person will pick up on what’s actually happening at the end if they don’t have prior knowledge of intersex people— i want my parents to go see it and then report back lol

also love that bruce willis was like "lmao nah i'd rather die by falling from a HORRIFYING height than deal with these two bitches for the rest of eternity" and also CACKLED at "what if I get bored?!?!?!" bc sAme.

obviously the fatphobia and mental institution portrayal is TOUGH, but unsurprising from 90's

i had fun watching it, but it became predictable to me in a way that was suuuuuuuuper boring.  sort of kept wishing i was watching star wars instead.  i will say — it is an unparalleled master class in The Formula for a propaganda movie / movie that is Made For The Express Purpose Of Making So Much Money (think Marvel).  honorable mention for miles teller playing piano and his emphasized question mark shrug after tom cruise asks him what he was thinking and he says you told me not to think!!! also it’s clearly well made.

i was way too stoned to understand this movie when i watched it, BUT it was worth it for maddie’s explanation at the end which gets a separate rating of 10/5
