The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

    ★★

A surprisingly mediocre and forgettable Lord of the Rings spin-off. It hits a lot of familiar beats and is clearly banking on nostalgia for the franchise, but it’s just not very interesting and doesn’t have a clear reason for existing. Honestly, it was kind of a slog to get through. The animation is fine, but nothing special. It felt like they were trying to save money by having as little movement as possible, shot to shot.

    “I won’t forget you buddy.”

I love these bad movies and I’m going to miss them. You have to respect Sony for keeping the 2000s era of superhero movies alive for so long. This is easily the most fun movie in the trilogy, and dare I say, better than the MCU’s recent output? Sure, it doesn’t really make any sense, but it nails the wacky buddy cop dynamic between Eddie and the symbiote, and that’s what I’m really here for.…

Matt Walsh will not see heaven. I just feel bad for actor/comedian Matt Walsh, for having to share a name with this horrible prick.

Below average, even for recent MCU, which is not at all a high bar. One of the most pointless and forgettable Marvel movies I’ve seen. It’s no wonder why they dumped this in February. It’s going for the paranoid political thriller feel of Winter Soldier, but it just has nothing interesting going on at all. The effects look cheap, the antagonist is a dud, and reshoots make the plot feel unnecessarily convoluted. It’s a shame, because Sam Wilson’s first solo film should be a bigger deal.
