This is a great movie. The characters felt really fleshed out - was like a good book where I was sad to say goodbye to the characters at the end. Yes, it’s a lot like Challengers (with more explicit sex scenes) but that plot line almost feels secondary to Cuaron’s broader ode to Mexico. Beautifully shot - particularly liked the one with Luisa in the phone booth (quick edit: although to be fair, the long scene with Luisa staring directly into the camera wasn’t for me).

Amores Perros 2000
The first two hours really had me captivated but the final story didn’t stick the landing for me. Better than Babel though

Donnie Darko 2001
This was much funnier than I expected. I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion was great.
Not sure I understood the overall messaging. But I took it as allegory for Donnie choosing to die because he perceived a negative future. And in that sense the story was all from Donnie’s flawed perspective
Anyway, time to watch some video essays!

Frida 2002
Didn’t know anything about Frida Kahlo going in so appreciated learning a little bit. But would have expected more focus on her art, and less on her relationship with Diego Rivera. Felt like the director thought homages were sufficient to explain Frida’s association with performance art but I know literally nothing about that
