Straight-Jacket 2004
Watched this after watching Matt Baume’s retrospective on it. While I haven’t really watched any Rock Hudson romantic comedies, I absolutely love Down With Love and knew this would be my shit.
The film definitely has some rough edges from being an independent production (the CGI exterior shots are blatant even by 2004 standards), but it more than makes up for it with a charming cast and a very witty and heartfelt script. Absolutely worth the evening on Tubi.

Honestly, way to fucking rebound on this franchise. A tense, atmospheric gothic melodrama was not something I would have expected after the last few Chucky movies, but it’s pulled off so well.
Most of the family is absolutely detestable, but Fiona Dourif as Nica Pierce is amazing. I can’t wait to follow her into Cult and the TV show.
Also, if you’re watching on Peacock, the post credits scene with Andy got cut for some reason. Still wonderful to see an older Alex Vincent killing it though.
