I love seeing our world through the lens of a storyteller, and analyzing how that conveyed, idealized world differs from our own reality.

I knew this was based on a Cornell Woolrich story, so I expected an anxious, paranoid descent into Hell, and that's exactly what was delivered. There are many scenes that feel like they came straight out of nightmares. The bit where Alan Curtis' character returns to his home to find it filled with hostile cops and the dead body of his wife is a notable example. However the most surreal and unnerving scene, is when "Kansas" (Ella Raines) accompanies a…

An odd chimera of a movie. It's part science fiction, part satire, part black comedy, part sex comedy, and a little bit of drama. I did not feel like these parts meshed well.

An interesting gimmick for a movie, reliving the previous year of your life to try and change things. I'm surprised this concept isn't done more in media. It's a fun vehicle to tell a story with.
Though, if her husband was an abusive alcoholic jerk the previous year, it really makes you wonder why our heroine tried to offer her husband a drink at the start of the film. Maybe wishful thinking that all his bad behavior was caused by his mistress?
In any case, my favorite character in this film was Bes. She was hilarious.

I watched this movie with the impression that it was a Cold War spy movie about finding ex-Nazis in South America. That's not really what this movie is about.
It's much more a domestic drama about a woman pretending to be with a man she doesn't love, while still loving another man. The spy stuff, and the Nazi stuff, is VERY much in the background.
Despite not being what I expected, I still enjoyed it.
    Ingrid Bergman is wonderful in…
