I watched this movie all the time as a kid and it always gave me this sense of haunting that I could never describe. It was just one of those movies about being a girl and the horrors that girlhood can bring. It felt like this horrifying cautionary tale that made being a small child feel scary.
Wild to rewatch as an adult and feel the same deep-seated fears and also be impressed by the strong visual style. And also kind of find most things about it annoying and charming at the same time.

The Boss Baby 2017
Beautiful art direction. Fun, wacky animation. Not as many poop jokes as one might be afraid of. Reminds you of being a kid in a major way.
When I first saw this, I remembered the Elvis part lasting a lot longer and telling everyone it was so funny. That did not have the same effect on me this time.

The Power of One: The Pokémon 2000 Movie Special 2000
I love you Pokemon 2000. I’ll never stop loving you Pokemon 2000.
In this rewatch, I found myself wishing that more of the background art was based more on the legendary birds that the movie talks about.
Thinking a lot about the Power of One, the song at the end. :)

I was running a rom com marathon alone in my apartment. I went from Dan in Real Life (as recommended by my partner) to While You Were Sleeping (as recommended by Disney+) to the suggestion page for Splash. It features an enchanting mermaid with a summary that essentially claimed that Tom Hanks fell in love with a mermaid. And that’s all I needed to convince me to watch this movie immediately.
I sent my wife texts before this movie started that…
