Much has been said about the performances in this movie, and they are all correct -- Colman Domingo is so compelling and human and righteously charismatic, Clarence Maclin's performance as himself commands an incredible self awareness and is sincerely phenomenal, and all the other RTA alums playing themselves are straight up excellent! Having these people tell their own story really elevates and stabilizes the film, fends off typical oscar-bait paternalism, and just makes it a lot more special. Definitely very…

Not necessarily criminally bad but just kind of boring. Hard to care about Beckinsale or Speedman bc they have practically no individual personalities or chemistry as a couple. Michael Sheen has the most charisma by a mile but the movie is a bit too self-serious to really let him diva out. Needed to be way more over the top, especially with the score -- there should have been nu-metal blasting for 80% of this movie's runtime and there just wasn't for reasons that cannot be explained.

Absolutely a perfect role for Rob considering it seems his main objective in life is to be The Scrungler, and he delivers so wonderfully. I could watch Naomi Ackie all day,…

Eggers' commitment to meticulous verisimilitude pays off every time the camera starts to float unnaturally, every moment Orlock's talon comes into frame -- the way the supernatural hits in a world that feels so real and convincing is just unparalleled. He also manages to accomplish a worthwhile and captivating expansion of the Dracula story, now as much about the trauma of childhood mental illness, the guilt and self-hatred of the groomed, the turmoil of female desire in a world that…
