  The Green Mile 1999

  This was heartbreaking and it definitely had its really beautiful moments but ultimately for a film about something as heavy as death penalty I don’t think it handled the intersection between race+capital punishment with the complexity it deserves at all tbh. 
  It also really played up the ‘noble savage’ archetype in a way that just did not sit right with me. John Coffey’s character really just feels like a white man’s fantasy for the ideal ‘Other’. Makes complete sense this film was such a commercial success lol.
