so fun
Steve Martin was amazing
watched the director's cut ending which was delightfully dark, but I'm glad there's also the theatrical ending so I can enjoy both possibilities
I loved the cinematography, beautiful bleak shots of the desert west
Had zero interest in Fern, since she is given basically no motivation or character development in my opinion, felt flat and empty. The only emotions were just things like "loss is sad", "babies and family are good" while overbearing pensive piano plays
Really cool that so many people in the film were basically playing themselves, and businesses too (Amazon, Wall Drug, US Gypsum) wish there had been more of that and less of a script
This New Yorker review resonates with me www.newyorker.com/culture/the-front-row/nomadland-reviewed-chloe-zhaos-nostalgic-portrait-of-itinerant-america
weird mess of a movie, I literally thought it was a trailer for the first few minutes, but then it kept going, trailer-style (super short scenes & constantly intense music), for 3 hours!
too much emotional music is so often a crutch for mediocre film, sigh
I didn't care about Oppenheimer losing his security clearance, or any of the other political stuff, compared to the creation of the atom bomb. I liked the middle parts at Los Alamos
Einstein looked too…
