Grease 1978
Nostalgia for the 1950s. Nostalgia for teenagehood. Delivered to you personally, and with great zeal, from the 1970s.
When the original stage musical opened in 1972 it had only been just over a decade since the end of the 1950s. Sometimes I think the pace of nostalgia has ramped up lately, but maybe that’s nothing new?
There are a lot of good songs in Grease. It’s also really quite sleazy. More than I expected. But isn’t it fun? Isn’t it…

Star Wars 1977
I watched this with my dad, who apparently hadn’t seen it in 40 years. (I wasn’t a Star Wars kid.) He thought it was okay. I found myself pondering 1970s haircuts, the countercultural nature of the Jedi and how the space explosions are a bit unconvincing. My favourite part is always Obi-Wan sneaking around the Death Star. There’s just something about it that’s a bit goofy and it never fails to make me chuckle

The Batman 2022
An Observation:
Batman’s footsteps are ABSURDLY LOUD. Unnecessarily, fantastically loud. Like someone off camera was ordered to whack a bass drum every time he takes a step. Even with that bullet-proof suit on, there’s no way the man is that heavy. So, how is he so good at sneaking up on the bad guys? Maybe all the evil folks in this world are really unobservant?
Okay, I loved the detail in this film. A beautifully grimy Gotham. We see so…

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 1999
In many ways this is ALMOST a good film. Here are my thoughts.
- Jar Jar hurts my soul every time he appears onscreen
- I love the fact that Palpatine's first name is "Sheev"
- At least the cities look good
- The plot is too focused on taxation and bureaucracy for its own good
- Yoda looks too real
- There are some SERIOUSLY dodgy accents in this filmTranslated from by
