I still think this is one of Ridley’s best films to come out in the past ten years. A solid and engaging thriller with excellent performances, led by Christopher Plummer and Michelle Williams, who I still feel got snubbed at the Oscars when this film was running the circuit. I still remember reading about the reshoot of this movie when I was in high school and thinking about how insane it was that it would only take a month. Christopher Plummer’s work definitely deserved his Oscar nomination. And obviously, only someone like Ridley Scott could have pulled off such an insane directorial challenge.

I’m curious about how much of this film’s success is owed to Oppenheimer? It’s got a ton of hype around the format it was shot on, and of course it is a 3 hour plus film of one man’s ambition to create something colossal (even if one is of pure destruction). To what success this film has from last year’s Best Picture winner, I am unsure, as A24’s marketing machine is quite impressive. But if this film wins Best Picture…
