  Inoue conquered the manga medium so hard he had to switch it up, and still killed it. Great directorial debut that stands well enough on its own, but is an especially fantastic complementary piece to the source material. Really fun adaptation with strong animation and art direction, and incredible additional character work that elevates Ryota a ton. A joy watching all of those moments from the Sannoh match come to life.

  A behemoth of a movie. It’s grand in its scale but also deeply personal. Captivating from start to finish with striking visuals, relentless drama and an incredible soundtrack that is arguably the best from a Nolan movie. Might also be his best cast. A1 performances from everyone involved, never a dull moment. Nolan did an excellent job showcasing the weight of Oppenheimer’s actions as well as the burden they had on him.   Very interesting film in its approach. A war movie stripped of the usual grandeur, brutality, drama or emotional story beats. It’s captivating through its mundanity and its absolute commitment to it. There’s no real plot developments leading up to a big conclusion or anything. The camerawork further adds to this feel, as the film is mainly composed of still shots. It gives way for the impression that this is a regular family, and could’ve been any other.
