  Yeah the theming is really on the nose and lacks subtlety but I personally believe that’s just the approach Greta took (idk this is the only film of hers I’ve seen). Although, this results in a hollow story/movie experience overall. Ryan Gosling’s raw performance stood out particularly in contrast to the meta jokes that eventually become tired.

  I Loved the “you are so beautiful” and “what was I made for?” montages. I’m a sucker for lens flare, intimate close ups and ambience.

  I didn’t get emotional like at all in fact. But this was personal reminder of how beautiful films like this can be.

  This was a some really heavy stuff both thematically and metaphorically. There was some stuff that I felt was contrived but it was still well realized as a whole.
