This movie adeptly captures the raw vulnerability of high school girls with moments so real and unfiltered that hit me hard. Some parts reminded me of Evangelion esp in how it delves deep into characters journey to forge identity and relationship in ways that are both naïve and painfully self aware.

I also see where NewJeans got their inspo 0_o

+The movie frames captain E in an ambiguous way like he’s a mentor figure. Pretty brazen bc it obv sidestepped from a necessary confrontation...

I've watched this film umpteenth times- it's the perfect movie to pleasantly zone out to!!! This film highlights how a subculture created by queer and black communities was commodified and overtaken by wealthy white yuppies, stripping it of its original meaning. Stillman portrays these characters as absurd and self important, not as clever or cool as they believe. What I like about his movies is that even though the dialogue is performative and pseudo-intellectual than genuinely insightful, there's a warmth in how he portrays these characters. And it's very funny.

Extremely boring and yet coppola’s hazy sad rich girl aesthetic leaves the movie rather.. cringy? Repetitive scenes over and over.. Both Priscilla and Elvis are painfully flat and bland, they have zero chemistry. I get what the film was going for, but honestly this could be any midwife story in the 60s, lacking the depth necessary to elevate its narrative beyond surface level exploration. Watch Madmen, it portrays wayyyy better.
