The biggest problem with BvS is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. When Batman is about to kill Superman in the climax of the film, Batman learns a piece of trivia involving their mother's first names, and doesn't kill Superman because it reminds him too much of his parents' killer. Any remaining catharsis afterwards is bludgeoned to oblivion when Batman goes ahead and "redeems" himself by taking out quite a few henchmen (who probably have families) in…

Before getting into the thematic bits about this film, I am obligated to praise this film's technical execution. The acting is phenomenal on all fronts, Deakins is a cinematographer legend and deserves his 2049 greatly, Zimmer's and Wallfisch's soundtrack might not be good as Vangelis's but stands in its own right, the production design/special effects are outstanding, and most of all, Denis Villeneuve really deserved an Oscar for best director. I hope he gets it for Dune.
