    Best Wishes of All  (2022)
    Dir. Yuta Shimotsu

First film for the Japanese Film Festival Online 2024.

The movie wasted no time establishing itself as a horror film. The lighting, sound design, score, and cinematography were all effective. It maximized every aspect to create this horror film. What I liked the most was the use of shadows to enhance the scary atmosphere. I’m not a fan of horror, so I expected jump scares only. But I realized it’s a horror movie without jump scares, and it still succeeded in being scary.

"Misteryo sa Tuwa" (1984), directed by Abbo Dela Cruz. It was shot in Lucban, Quezon, the hometown of the director and his brother, Rosauro "Uro" Q. Dela Cruz, who served in the crowd directing role.

The plot revolves around three men who discover a suitcase from a plane crash but choose not to report it. When authorities approach them, the town mayor, Alcalde Valle, plans to steal the money for his own greed. The film features themes of greed, corruption, and hatred, starring Amable Quiambao, Alicia Alonzo, Maria Montes, Vangie Labalan, and Lito Anzures.

    Audition (1999)
    Dir. Takashi Miike

“You’re about to see something wonderful.”

“You'll find happiness. You just have to keep looking.”

“Deeper, deeper, deeper, deeper, deeper, deeper, deeper…”

In "Audition," the slow pacing sets it apart from typical horror films. Rather than overtly signaling terror, it lures you in with romance and mystery, making the third act all the more shocking. The dreamlike sequences and shifting light colors serve as eerie foreshadowing, crafting an immersive experience. It's a horror masterpiece that subverts expectations and leaves a lasting impact.
