This is an example of when a film becomes art. We need films like these now more than ever, when people’s rights are being taken away left and right. This shines the light of humanity into our dark spaces where the broader public do not typically dare to venture. The men calling each other “beloved”—I’ll never forget that. Just beautiful.

The Cabin in the Woods 2011
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
this movie is trying to be way too many things at once, leaving a bunch of loose ends. There’s a point where you just have to succumb to the mayhem and accept that the movie is imperfect, which is why it gets 3 stars because at least it’s self-aware. Felt hunger games-esque with the force field a la Catching Fire and the hunky hemsworth switch-out. In fact, going into it blind, I thought it was a bread et circuses trope and honestly would have preferred that to the weird ancient god sacrifice that they offered as justification—I was just like what??

The Nice Guys 2016
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I would say this movie aged poorly…except it’s from 2016??? Ridiculously tailored for the male gaze, like not one bare torso of a man but countless half-naked women?? Many of the jokes were either misogynist or racist and it was painful to try to laugh along. The ending with the mother ranting about the glory of Detroit was truly bizarre. The whole big bad Department of Justice behind everything almost felt MAGA-coded—don’t trust the government! They’re all out to get…
