It's pretty good but very pulpy and melodramatic which isn't really my cup of tea. Ultimately it's shallower than it perhaps imagines itself, despite the laboured references to classical literature. You can tell it was adapted from a manga.

Schmaltzy American garbage full of one-dimensional caricatures. I don't know why I expected anything less from Spielberg but in a war film striving somewhat for realism it feels particularly egregious and borderline insulting.
