visually stunning but insultingly shallow.
If we take the core premise of poor things to be "what happens when you put a child in an attractive woman's body," that's not so much a premise as it is one step removed from reality. Teenage girls are targeted by predatory men all the time. Does reducing a teenager's mental age by five years lead to any interesting insights?
Not in this movie, it doesn't. What proceeds is a shockingly abstract coming-of-age story…
