Some classics are kinda trash. Some trash is kinda classic
I am too high to comprehend what I just watched, but even more confounding was the Chevy Chase interview on the Blu-ray. At one point he fully admits he doesn't remember the movie, talks a lot about how Dan Akyroyd's prosthetic nose looks like a dick, tells a story about John Candy eating two turkeys, and then explains backhandedly how Akyroyd was a bad director.
Rewatched at the Drafthouse for my birthday. Such an experience to have these images thrown at you on a large screen with full theatre sound. I tried to get some friends to go with me. But looking at it now, I can't imagine making another person experience this movie with you, even if they've already seen it. Sheryl Lee and Ray Wise are just astonishing. Twin Peaks has been a large part of my three decades on earth, and I'm sure I'll be coming back to it before too long.
This is so upsetting, and we need to be talking about that. Todd pushing the two halves of his dead therapist back together. Louise Lasser, no words can do her justice. Mark Soper gives such a strong performance, that I always forget he's not two different people. Family trauma lingers over every frame. Ted Raimi cameos as a condom salesman. There's a standard slasher here, and a deeply traumatizing experience at the same time. Nothing short of bizarre, the clash of someone saying something and a lot of nothing. This continues to grow in my esteem.
