Absolutely the best of the franchise.
It's sickening and tense but, more than that, seeing Sienna and Jonathan as these shards is so unexpectedly sad. The True Crime parasite treating them as celebrities is just as sickening as anything Art does (not to mention the multiple moments of 'Celebrity' throughout: the guy dressed as Art reacting to Art, Art reacting to Santa, etc.) Oh and the new lore Leone erected is just fucking cool.A thoughtful, disgusting, bruising movie.

The original has some sparse but memorable atmosphere thanks to the score and how Jan De Bont treats the tornados almost as characters in and of themselves. The whole mood flirts with being outright creepy when the funnel clouds form and the ghostly parts of the score hums and whistles.
That is all but absent from this movie (even though I do enjoy the more whimsical piano trills here) but where it succeeds is everywhere else the original falls short.…
