La La Land 2016
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I don't think it was a bad movie but La La Land is seriously overrated. The views of the city are amazing. Beutiful colour palettes. Cute dancing. Those were some of the good aspects. But the characters were flat - it didn't seem like they had any personality or interested outside of acting or jazz. Especially Ryan Gosling's obession with jazz was weird and he never actually explained why he enjoyed it so much. And of course: the white guy…

The Handmaiden 2016
the way the story was told (in three parts) reminded me of "rashomon"and sometimes also of the "realm of senses". the plot had amazing twists and all the costumes and the cinematography were beautiful. it was the first film by park chan-wook i've ever seen so i wasn't sure what to expect - i didn' think it would be that dark. however some of the sex scenes felt very male gaze-y in a "blue is the warmest colour" way" (but not as bad)
