It is almost poetic that this film was partially produced by the Russo Brothers, for it arguably surpasses any recent Marvel product in creative ambition and achieves all of its lofty goals with only a fraction of the budget. The latest movie by the Daniel's is a sci-fi adventure, an action comedy, an existentialist experience, a character study, a family drama, a love story. It is truly everything everywhere all at once.
The Matrix Resurrections is a moving love story with sci-fi aesthetics bolted on; it is the story of a creator recognizing that their creation has grown far beyond their control and that their original intentions are subordinate to their audience's collective interpretations but trying to reclaim it anyways; it is a director hijacking the modern franchise blockbuster machine to tell a deeply personal story; it is a self aware, self reflective commentary on stories, beliefs, and its own role in…

Idris Elba joins a paramilitary death squad that's sent to a fictional Latin American country following a coup to help cover up US involvement in crimes against humanity, but re-discovers his conscience partially thanks to a goth girl with daddy issues who can control rats and helps a popular uprising overthrow the military junta. And John Cena plays deranged Captain America who commits war crimes. And Harley Quinn is in it too, I guess.
