Man. I'm a bit speechless right now. This was an experience. It was funny, romantic, well acted, beautifully shot, and the weirdest movie in my top five for 2013. It was unlike anything I have ever seen. The hint of sci-fi mixed with the unconventional romance proved to be a really great mix. Definitely worth watching.

I love this movie. I could watch this movie almost anytime. After I saw this film for the first time I walked out of the theater and immediately wanted to turn around and see it agin. This film is definitely my pick for movie of the year. Somehow Dennis Villeneuve and the rest of the cast and crew kept me riveted for the entire roughly 2.5 hour runtime. The performances were incredible, especially Jake Gyllenhaal as Detective Loki. Roger Deakins, as usual, was incredibly on point. The cinematography in this movie was breathtaking. All in all this movie was an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed despite the soul crushing subject of the film.

The Raid is one of my all time favorite action movies. The story exists in this film. It does a decent enough job of setting up the scenario and letting it play out. The real star here is the action. From the moment the team enters the apartment complex to the final moments of the film the pace never lets up. Beautifully choreographed, raw fights nonstop throughout the film. It is an incredibly fun and brutal ride.
