Strums the heart strings predictably but effectively. A solid and powerful kids/family entry that should live on to become a solid tentpole of the decade. The baddies are a bit too straightforward versus the underlying and menacing implications about human society broadly, but we can certainly forgive the movie translating into cleaner symbols for the little ones. (We'll leave the subtlety to Flow.)

Late Night with the Devil 2023
A premise-slash-gimmick that works nicely and, in fact, would've been better by leaning further into—perhaps by excising the documentary style commercial break scenes and landing them on the stage. The surrealist sequence at the end similarly doesn't feel entirely necessary, though can't fault them for a play at some "elevation."
The AI bumper illustrations are a misstep worthy of the heavy ding the movie got. Not only are they blatant but they're just plainly sloppy and no good, sitting jarringly in a production that clearly involved a lot of love and attention to detail.

Dune: Part Two 2024
Lacks the architectural elements and narrative launchpad of the first, and so shifts around under the feet a bit more, but still a movie you can go live in. Above all else are the Gushers-style fireworks from the Harkonnens.
To do: rewatch with both parts together and give the dyad the one five-star review (presumably).
