I watched this after attending the Renaissance World Tour… what a fucking film. It really shows you how far drag and the ballroom scene has come, where it started, the journey, the hardships, and how the battle is still going on. Absolute excellence.
I feel better for having seen this documentary and seeing a glimpse of the struggles and powerful moments faced by black women in hiphop since the beginning, it’s beautiful to see how it started and where it’s come!
O B S E S S E D.
I’d happily watch this five times over, really.
Casting was perfect, they each brought their A game.
But of course, Kamala and the Khan family stole the show.
I understood why Dar-Benn was so hellbent on revenge and I can understand the measures she took to be Hala’s hero. (Zawe Ashton is hot af, side note). Carol’s redemptive moment was great.
The only part I didn’t really like was all the musical stuff on Aladna… That’s not Marvel.
THE most boring film I’ve seen. Such a shame because Sid is so good looking, his talent was wasted on this. The film had me wanting to watch Shershaah again.
