I don't get why people are calling this a slow burn. You ADD or something? It's 1.5 hours with at least 3 really suspenseful parts.
Story, acting, effects, pacing, etc. are all very good. Clearly a big budget isn't needed for great sci-fi.

It's like James Wan read my Insidious review and then went and made this movie as an apology.
I applaud Kubrick for his optimism. I hope he's right, and we become children of the universe, but I fear modern society's shortsightedness will make 2001 more fairy tale than foretelling.
The haunted house tension building part of this movie was excellent. Somewhere in the middle it's quite evident that they didn't know how to write a climax that lived up to the build-up, and just said "fuck it," threw in some unnecessary comic relief, and made the rest set in some retarded dream world. The twist ending was cool, but was not near enough to redeem the stumble.
Hopefully, some other filmmaker not connected with Saw or Paranormal Activity will take influences from the good part of this movie and actually make a quality modern haunted house film start to finish.
