Alpacas, baby Luke from Hill House, some genuinely disturbing body horror, a stunningly ridiculous Nick Cage performance, and an impressive adaptation of difficult H.P. Lovecraft source material.
A little plodding at times but structured well with a good payoff.

Some thoughts:
Not a horror movie, but a rather lovely, if imprecise, vampire film. I adored Wisburg and the period costuming was to die for.
That having been said:
Eggers missed a trick if he wanted to make it more horrifying! Show the children dying in greater detail, coward!
Period pieces require some character actors, too many A-Listers breaks the spell. Willem Dafoe counts.
