  A culmination of mastery in the art of entertainment for auteur David Lynch. Arising come questions of creative responsibilities, with regards to the female characters in his oeuvre. Is the explicit showing of sexual violence towards women, forcing audiences to partake in the storytellers pleasure in his voyeurship, defendable on moral ground? Melissa Anderson argues yes in her 2006 essay on Inland Empire and I agree, the women in Lynch’s stories have agency, personally and sexually,  and of complex build, especially if read in time of their conception.
