Felt as though I was watching a TV series instead of a movie. Really jumped around and everything felt pretty disconnected until the end of the film. I usually like going into films blind but this one might have sat better if I had understood the premise beforehand.
Also the cat scene?? What the heck.
How can you produce a film centered around a civil war, titled "Civil War," while steering clear of politics? I don’t know and these producers didn’t know either.
Apart from the muddled plot and the complete lack of any kind of rational supporting context, there were some solid shots. Wish they had focused in on the personal experiences of the war photographers/journalist rather than trying to force a senseless storyline that ultimately distracts from any interesting idea that is presented throughout the film.
Did I think this movie would for some reason have a happy ending? Yes. Was I absolutely and completely wrong? 100% yes. I honestly don’t think there was a single comfortable moment to be had throughout the entirety of the film.
Also, why do all the most sadistic killers have, what I will now coin, the bardem haircut?
