Lola 1961
Lovely exploration of the idea that a dream can itself be a reward. I don’t know how Demy manages to take dialogue and circumstances that should seem contrived and make them into something so natural and moving. I loved the purity of the light in the distance and the use of Beethoven’s 7th, and the entire fair scene made my heart ache. Frankie’s accent was perfect—no notes.
