Was pretty rad, great action, drama and concepts, the Wunder fleet was awesome. The decision to turn the most toxically positive character into a depressed, authoritative Captain was really interesting. I love where this has taken things in terms of setting but do wish it continued the shows highly introspective nature. For characters other than Shinji.

I liked how much of Shinji’s home / school life we got, the aquarium and water melon scenes were nice inclusions. They broke up the Angel fights so it didn’t just feel like action scene after action scene again. Mari was shallow but luckily wasn’t in it too much, she was a bad example of something this film did that I generally liked, namely adding small subversions with big consequences into a narrative that was very recognisably Evangelion.

This is with the caveat that the heart’s only for half the episode, I really liked the Doctor and Anita’s wholesome little friendship, but most of Joys arc and the time hotel concept felt rushed and needlessly convoluted.

Jim going completely  ham on those rapists was so cathartic, it was an excellent way of showing that Ecclestone’s line about only “seeing more people killing people since the apocalypse” was just the soulless words of a grotesque manipulator. Violence can never be summed up as just “killing” or all equally as bad regardless of the situation, the perpetrator‘s morals are a massive factor that can’t be waved away.
