This feels like the straight to Redbox ripoff of Die Hard. This isn’t the worst film in the world, but the problem is it’s very derivative of many others seen before. I remember this film having a complete chokehold over my childhood. It was a staple for DVD rentals and watching it at friends’s houses. I was worried that this wouldn’t hold up like it did, and while it is not perfect, it’s still entertaining.
Dwayne Johnson does a good job playing the snarky, self indulgent sports icon, while also playing a convincing loving father. The dynamic really works between him and his daughter, and I like the story…
I love that a studio took a risk with this project, and I hope other studios don’t get discouraged by how this does regardless if it is successful or not. It’s chances like this that give us unique films. I always love when Sci-fi shows me things I haven’t seen before, and asks complex questions you may not have the answers to.
