in a similar vein to Boogie Nights, Magnolia really is a long ass movie that manages to keep you engaged the whole time. it was a bit hard to follow at first with all the disconnected plot points, but eventually you pick up what’s going on and the timing is done very well to match up in climax and tension. I can’t seem to enjoy it as much as the former, though, precisely cause of those disjointed story lines, some of which have different endings/points/etc., “and yet it happened” !!

such a wonderful love letter to animation and a great look at what it feels like to put your heart and soul into something. sometimes, you’ll get rewarded and complimented, sometimes you’ll be completely blown out of the water by someone else, and most of the time, you’ll spend hours upon hours upon hours grinding to the point where you won’t see the sun for days.
