Authenticity.
It’s arguably the most important element of any art form. It can also be interpreted and expressed in a multitude of ways.
What does it mean for art - a film, in this case - to be authentic? Genre is irrelevant. A science-fiction film or a horror film can be as authentic as a drama, as long as it’s true to its own world.

On my fifth watch, there’s no doubt that this film stands among my all-time favorites.
The unmatched creativity, social commentary, wit, humor, horror, character deconstructions, style, guts, complexity, engaging and nonstop entertaining surface qualities, and sheer audacity of THE SUBSTANCE makes it a film for the ages. I still can’t believe they managed to get it into wide release.
Coralie Fargeat, Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid, and every single person involved in the making of this film have created something eternal and should be as proud of themselves as all film lovers are.
Shhhh, don’t argue with me. Every scene except the first one features Emilia Clarke.
