Geoffrey Rush perfectly sells the physicality of someone who’s recovering from a stroke, as well as the frustration of being a lot smarter than everyone else around him. It appears John Lithgow is trying to do some sort of New Zealand accent but uhh… it’s not very convincing. A real highlight was the scene with the magician and the original song that played during it.

All of Zack’s classic hallmarks are here, desaturated, high contrast color palette, operatic storytelling, slow motion, stylized violence, it really is surprising Zack didn’t direct this… 20 years ago. In the Lost Lands feels like a relic from the 2000s but more in a dated way than nostalgic. The only thing it’s missing is Evanescence on the soundtrack.
The whole movie has that ‘too cool for you’ attitude, CGI is…
