There is a tendency to explore deviation from gender norms to elicit horror and surrealism, particularly men whose actions are accompanied by uncharacteristically feminine aesthetics--makeup, women's clothing, long hair, etc. In this case, the antagonist also preys on young girls and aims to destroy the family. I will acknowledge that as a trans girl I am particularly sensitive to this--and I doubt that this literal analysis is the writers' intent--but it is worth noting that this is a cultural product in an era of increasing "trans panic." Food for thought.
