Art is communication. It says what words cannot. It unites and separates. As a man, I can try and tell you I've seen and heard all the women, wether shouting or whispering, about their struggles, successes, dreams and worries, but when I see a film like this, I'm reminded that true understanding is something I'll never reach, but should still always strive for.

How humbling, important and marvelous it is to be moved by a story that is wholly not…

I'm sorry but it's so, so ugly. I appreciate that it probably took a lot of work to animate, but it's so ugly. This is made far worse by the fact the derivative "high fantasy blood and boobs" aesthetic is the only thing it could have had going for it, since the story is incoherent, and both the script and voice acting are cornier than rural Iowa.

I was so bored. Massively disappointing.

How poetic that on a night that I felt depressed, ugly and wishing that I didn't have to have a physical form, I would blindly choose to watch a film that challenges the belief that humans are their physical forms at all.

Sometimes too thematically abstract for me, but it's haunting, confronting and insightful.

Has an incredible visual style and language (Junichiro Hayashi never misses), but goes like 40+ minutes too long. A 10/10 film exists in here somewhere. My love of early 2000s J-horror atmosphere can only take me so far
