I re-watched this via the first Vestron laserdisc which contains the supposedly R-rated 90ish-minute cut. I find it hard to believe that even with 10+ minutes removed that this could have passed woth an R rating back then.

"Does it hurt when you think, Ricky?"

What I find distressing, yet telling, about our society today is that many people complain about how stupid the people around them are, yet they themselves applaud modern horror films like this one. Osgood Perkins catering to the lowest common denominator strongly suggests to me that he has unresolved anger with his father and is therefore intent on pissing on the Perkins name.

A brilliant underrated (and often sad) film from director Buddy G. that is his criminally underseen masterpiece. Tim Roth turns in one of his best performances if not his best performance here. As is the case in all of Buddy G.'s films, harsh reality is on display throughout. Every time I meet someone who I think might possibly appreciate this film, I watch it with them or offer them a copy.

This somewhat disjointed exploration of the human body shows two things at least:

    1) The human body is a magical, mysterious thing.
    2) It's also freakin' GROSS.
